THE CYCLING ART AND EROTICA EXHIBITION

The exhibition was successful beyond our wildest dreams, over 500 people attended over the two days. There were over 100 exhibits in both sections and the launch of the fine art prints from The Frank Patterson Society was well received, but undoubtedly the success of the show was the cycling erotica. It received much media attention, with reviews on television, radio and press.

The organisers had culled the world for these early images that in some instances went back to the days of the Boneshaker. Probably the most surprising was how the bicycle manufacturers of the 1890’s had used the nude female figure to sell bicycles. It must be remembered that in those early days it was daring for a woman to show an ankle when riding a bicycle and when girls began wearing rational dress there were instances of them being stoned in the street.

The organisers are continually expanding their collection of cycling art, both mainstream and erotic and it is possible that a travelling exhibition may be assembled. Creating such an exhibition however is expensive, so a sponsor is being sought.

Due to the phenomenal success of the 2006 exhibition velorotic.co.uk in conjunction with the Mildenhall Cycling Rally are once again organising another exhibition in August of this year.  A selection of cycling art from around the world will be on display in the main hall and in a separate room a selection of erotic cycling art can be viewed, with examples from the ‘naughty nineties’, 1950’s Vargas style girls, to the present day ‘full frontal’ images.
